Right off the top... The U.S. government does not currently provide grants for starting or expanding a small business. However, the government does offer plenty of free help in planning how to start or improve your business and in securing low-interest SBA-backed small business loans. In addition, many states DO offer small business grants to individuals. SBA does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses. SBA's grant programs generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments in an effort to expand and enhance small business technical and financial assistance. -- Source: SBA

The "SBA" is the U.S. Small Business Administration. Since 1953, the SBA has helped thousands of Americans form small businesses. Today. Encourage local consumption is one

(By the way, in case you don't know, I'm an American living in the UK). There are endless programs and events here featuring local businesses of all types, particularly small producers. Encouraging the support of local producers is considered part of their programs to reduce energy consumption and good hutrition. They also have grants for things like wind turbines for energy. There are set-up grants for new graduates. Local councils sponsor low-cost or free courses on how to start a business and all kinds of other issues, including employee development courses. All businesses here seem to encourage their employees to get further education and skills, especially in terms of making time for them in the work schedules

First forget your age...

Don't use it as a hinderance and stop waving it like a banner.
Be the way you were at 25. I kid you not. Look in the mirror and say, I'm talented..if no one else can see it, its their loss!
Then you find what you want to do. Don't pack it in. Don't have a child because they tell ya having one after 35 is crap. Many women have them until 48 now and many are fine and healthy. Don't crochet, you're not bloody granma moses..
..unless crocheting is your hobby and you can sell your wares on e-bay or at rummage sales, farmers markets or bazarrs. Bingo, small business.
