Greetings. I'm looking to find a reliable backup solution for our desktops and laptops in the office. We had used the Symantec System Recovery, but they never sent us the correct license. After about 3 months of fighting with them, we're moving on. All I need is a simple backup software that works well with Windows machines, that can perform a scheduled full and incremental backup to a local storage server. Also having the backup files be encrypted is highly desirable.

Any thoughts on a decent backup software?

I looked at some 40 packages on windows clients. I chose Ocster Pro. See following link for more info Most of the backup solutions I tried failed on one or more of just 6 requirements.

One major feature we wanted was to be able to take a laptop out of the office, even while a backup is active. That feature was hard to find, most solutions stop with an error, if the backup device (USB or network) is not be available anymore when going on the road. Also security was a challenging feature to get.

Best practice for small business backup?

I have a small office that I manage. 26 laptops. 6 critical, 20 use web based software and have local outlook pst files that need to be backed up.
I am looking at acronis to backup the computers as well as an exchange server so I dont need to backup all machines and just need to backup the server. Obviously using acronis would allow we to restore a computer a lot faster than reinstalling windows and minimize downtime, so thats a benefit there.
The cost of 26 licenses of Acronis would almost be the same as buying a MS Exchange license and using that to manage email

Good backup programs for Windows Vista & XP?

My boss wants me to setup a nightly backup system for our small business.
We already have a DLink DNS-323 NAS 1TB drive on the network to backup to.
Ideally I'd like a backup program which can:
- Work with Vista 64,32 and XP
- Can do nightly backups
- Can backup Outlook's files while it is still up and running
- Bonus if it can do realtime backups, i.e. backup a file as soon as it's changed
I've tried the software that ships with the NAS (couldn't backup files with programs still opened, and restore didn't restore all files) and Vista's built in backup program (worked fine on one machine, always failed with an obscure error on my machine)
